JAPAN: „A világháború óta ez a legsúlyosabb válság”

„A világháború óta ez a legsúlyosabb válság”

A második világháború óta a legsúlyosabb válsággal néz szembe Japán – jelentette be helyi idő szerint vasárnap este Kan Naoto miniszterelnök a nemzethez intézett beszédében.

A meteorológiai hatóságok Tokióban vasárnap tették közzé a pénteki földmozgás erősségének módosított adatát. A dpa német hírügynökség vasárnapi jelentése szerint a világon évente mindössze egyszer történik ilyen intenzitású, azaz 8-asnál erősebb földrengés az utóbbi 100 esztendő statisztikai adatai alapján.

A szakértő arra hívta fel a figyelmet, hogy a 9-es erősségű földrengés mintegy 500 kilométer hosszúságú területet érintett, és ez roppant nagy feszültségfelhalmozódást okozott a környező szegmensekben, ami további földmozgásokat idézhet elő.

Graphic and tragic. The loss of life is mounting, and thousands upon thousands of people in Haiti are homeless, injured, and in shock. Many are without food, water, medical aid, or shelter. “Desperation” seems a grotesque understatement here.

The Red Cross has released this disturbing photo essay video of the heartbreaking devastation that has bludgeoned Haiti following yesterday’s earthquake.

Red Cross: Earthquake in Haiti: Photo Essay

From US Post Today, Haiti Earthquake Update: International aid efforts for Haiti under way:

International efforts to help Haiti in the wake of the 7.0 magnitude earthquake are under way, with governments across the world and aid agencies mobilising search and rescue teams and aid supplies.

Although the full scale of the disaster has yet to emerge, it is clear that it will pose a huge challenge.

Haiti, the poorest country in the western hemisphere, is still struggling to recover from devastating hurricanes in 2008.

It needs all kinds of help, from emergency and medical aid, to food aid, to the longer-term rebuilding of infrastructure.
